Windows Firewall Control by Malwarebytes is a free utility that gives you control over the settings and rules of Microsoft's built-in firewall security application.

The interface of the program is modern and straightforward with shortcuts in the left-hand side providing navigation to the several unique features that Windows Firewall Control has to offer.

Once installation has completed, the program sits in the system tray where it can be accessed at any time, providing you with a way to setup rules for your system's network security. The preset profiles on offer are a range of different filtering levels from no filters all the way up to high filtering. Each level provides a certain level of protection by blocking incoming and outgoing network traffic.

Additional options to improve security

Further restrictions can be configured under the "Rules" area where you can create rules for incoming, outgoing or incoming and outgoing network traffic. You can import and export files from policy files in WFW or WPW format.

The security options include secure boot, secure profile and secure rules. You can also set a password to the program with the lock icon in the menu bar.

Windows Firewall Control integrates with a few online services which can provide some verification; this includes file analysis with VirusTotal, IP queries with IPVoid and a couple of different network tools like WHOIS.
